Review Item...........................: Kaze Master Supplied By............................: Scythe
Well not too long ago we had an email detailing a new style of fan controller. Scythe are a fantastic company for products and once again on this occasion they had details of something really strange and new. The product details to be honest left me thinking 'its another fan controller'. But, when I got to the pics, it totally blew my mind.

The Kaze Master is a four channel fan controller that gives you active read outs for four fans detailing speed and localised temperature using probes. The most phenomenal thing you can say about the unit is, when its powered off, it all looks like a black screen or blanking plate. You wouldnt realise what it is until you tear open the box, rip open the bags and put it in your system and power it on. Then, and only then does the soft bluey glow really let you know that its not a blanking plate, or a standard mounted controller. This bad boy is different. This, is something new.
Now looking at the black unit straight from the box you notice the cabling is so discrete. Some of the units we have seen before from a host of other companies use large thick cables. This is a simplified, narrow gauge wire loom that can be routed very discretely around the edge of the case, and with the probe installations at the same time, you really can get the entire looming in and hidden. The four way fan controller gives good control for a front fan, rear fan and even the heatsink. Also leaving you one more to play on. In the test bed, we have two front feed fans, one on the heatsink and two on the back. So I opted to control the fan furthest from the heatsink so if it needs a boost to cooling we can have one, but one running at full speed anyway wont really be loud.
After its all installed and you power the system on for the first time with the controller in place you really do actually grasp how fantastic this product is. Its like KITT from Knight Rider, or the Holodeck on the Enterprise, or Holly on Red Dwarf. Its a really interesting point of conversation that makes everyone look at it like its a 5 year old with no self control.
The two rows of information relate to each channel showing the RPM of each fan in turn and also the temperature of where you placed the thermal probes. Its just so simple, its so clean, its Zen in a PC part, its Ying to Yang and so, SO much more. Thats all there is to it, its looks phenomenal, its works simply and with such style and grace. If it was sold by Ikea it would be called the Melvin range! Yes you can set the temperature read out in degrees C or degrees F, yes you can turn the fan dials all the way back to stop the fans, yes it has an alarm on it. Its sheer perfection.
Im not joking, Im not trying to make you buy this either as I want them all and wont share them, its without doubt the top item for 2008 as everyone who saw it, wanted it. It wont matter if you game, clock, or just want a silent pc, if you have space for one simply add one.
It takes our coveted award and its the best must have buy item I have come across so far. Its a thing of rare beauty.
